Head of Comms at Village Global / Office of Reid Hoffman

Village Global is an early stage venture firm chaired by Reid Hoffman and backed by some of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs, including Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Abby Johnson, Michael Dell, and Anne Wojcicki. With $500M AUM, Village leads seed rounds in the most talented founders in Silicon Valley and beyond.

Village Global HQ is a small team of high performers — entrepreneurs, operators, authors, community builders. The Village team works hard because they’re passionate about pursuing their mission of increasing entrepreneurship around the world.

At Village, you’ll be working in a culture that prizes personal and professional growth. You’ll have a front row seat to learn from some of the most exceptional founders and iconic CEOs in the world. You’ll co-host Village’s signature events. You’ll widen your personal network dramatically as you help build the best network in tech.

The Office of Reid Hoffman manages many of Reid’s commercial, philanthropic, and public intellectual endeavors. It’s a small team of creative professionals where no task is too small and no idea too audacious – so long as it has the potential for massive impact. Reid’s vision for how to use network thinking and network doing to improve the world serves as an inspiring north star.

Role: Head of Communications

We are hiring a full-time, senior communications & marketing professional who will work at both Village Global and The Office of Reid Hoffman.

You will head up press, brand, and assorted marketing projects for Village and for Reid personally, along with portfolio companies and allies of both organizations. For Village, you’ll focus on startups and venture capital. For Reid, you’ll also work on projects related to entrepreneurship, investing, public policy, philanthropy, and the world of ideas, with a special focus on his company Manas AI.

This is an unusually wide-ranging role that demands flexibility in approach and a willingness to handle projects related to different domains. The opportunity for impact, learning, and career transformation is truly singular.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Mainstream media press management and relations: handle inbound queries, vet opportunities, and engage in strategic outbound to journalists.
  • Brand management, storytelling, and narrative building work for fundraises, product launches, or other major announcements.
  • Speaking engagement management: vetting and tactical execution of speaking gigs and public appearances.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and editorial efforts in written, video, and audio form that target founders, VCs, policy makers, and global influencers.
  • Events and community: Contribute to IRL or virtual gatherings with content leadership, live facilitation/moderation, and brand strategy.

The ideal candidate:

Beyond the obvious, you’re an ideal candidate if:

  • You can multitask and context switch effortlessly across different companies, product areas, and internal “customers.” This is a role that rewards agility and demands regular communication in order for you to prioritize correctly among competing needs. You have to be great at juggling a portfolio.
  • You’re curious about tech and AI: you’re using the latest tools, you’re fascinated by where it’s heading, you’re not afraid to vibecode. You have an inner nerd inside you and you’re fundamentally optimistic about where it’s all heading.
  • You have the ability and interest to flex into non-tech domains such as policy, politics, science, current affairs, and education.
  • You follow the real time Twitter/online conversation about tech and venture. (Tell us what your current information diet is.)
  • You have a point of view on how to shape narratives that win attention in today’s information landscape. (Tell us an example of a meme that spread recently and why it worked.)
  • You understand the early stage startup game (vs. big company) -- the unique media/comms needs of startups that are going from zero to one.
  • You’re excited to roll up your sleeves and execute. This is not a role where you will hire a team under you or contract with multiple agencies. (To be sure, there will be other admin support and specialists in the two orgs who you will collaborate with.) We expect this person to be both strategic and operational at once.
  • You’re familiar with, and compelled by, Reid Hoffman’s current brand and worldview.
  • You likely have at least 12+ years of work experience.

This role is likely not a fit if:

  • You’re looking for a more “balanced” lifestyle after an intense run as an operator somewhere else. This will be a demanding job.
  • You expect to hire a team of executors on-staff or hire agencies so that you can stay “high level” on strategy.
  • You’re not already using AI tools in your day-to-day workflow.
  • You’re a marketing or comms specialist. We want generalists who spike at media and press but are highly capable at many other adjacent functions. You’ll need to wear different hats within the comms and marketing world – not just one.
  • You’re looking for “focused,” singular, deep dive engagement with a single brand, product, or company. (In this role, you have to want to work on a portfolio.)

Location

  • Remote okay, but U.S. time zone required. In-person work on the West and East Coasts will be required at different times.
